The Drumming Experience
Drumming
Drumming has been used in many societies as a part of religious ceremonies and healing. Anecdotal evidence shows that vibrations from drumming can result in physical healing in the body. Susan's focus in drum circles and drumming for healing is to create sacred space -- a place where those who are gathered (even if it's one person coming for a healing drumming session) experience a connection with Spirit. So a drum circle is not just about making noise (which of course happens to some degree), but fostering unity -- between ourselves as people, the Earth, the trees, oceans, animal kingdom, angelic realms and the Creator of it all. Namaste.
BenefitsDrumming is has positive effects in the following areas:
|
HealingFor healing drumming, Susan uses an open-sided hoop drum to drum around the body, focusing on areas the person has indicated are problematic. She uses intuition as her guide for how long to drum in each area and the intensity and rhythm of the drumming.
It can also be very powerful when done for someone else using a djembe drum (the ones shaped like an hourglass.) For great information from a man who’s been doing this for years, see Toby Christensen’s site: http://www.healingdrummer.com |
Strength and BalanceDrumming may also be done to strengthen and balance the body’s energy centers (chakras). Once shown how simple this is, anyone with a hoop drum can do it with a drum of their choice, using intuition to guide them in how long, how loud and what rhythm to use for each chakra.

Drumming Circles
At the request of friends, Susan has resumed offering Drum Circles. In 2018 they are taking place at Unity Church on Spokane's South Hill -- at the corner of 29th Ave. and Bernard St. We will be circling in the Chapel, which is the room to the immediate right when you enter the Church via the front door.
We try to set dates as close to full moon and equinox/solstice as we can -- upcoming ones will be noted under Events on the home page of this site.
You don’t have to have your own drum – we have extras. But we do ask that you bring a donation for Unity Church for the use of their space.
