Eupsychia Integrative Breathwork

Eupsychia Integrative Breathwork Explained

The Start

The Eupsychia Institute and the Eupsychia Process of Integrative Breathwork were founded by Jacquelyn Small, LMSW. Jacquelyn Small initially worked with Stanislav Grof, MD (psychiatrist) and his wife, Christina Grof using Holotropic Breathwork™ at Esalen in California before branching out on her own in 1990. She has spent well over 30 years in her own personal work and teaching about blending psychology and spirituality. While providing workshops and teaching, Ms. Small also authored many exceptional books, including Transformers: Therapists of the Future (1984), Awakening in Time: The Journey from Codependence to Cocreation (2001), Psyche’s Seeds (2001), and The Sacred Purpose of Being Human (2005).

Susan's Experience

In 1990, Susan experienced her first Eupsychia Integrative Breathwork (hereafter just “Breathwork”) weekend.

What impressed her most was the level of trust and respect that occurred in the group of 28 people, some who had done Breathwork before and others completely new to the process.

At the time, Susan was a music lover, psychotherapist and spiritual seeker. Breathwork provided a way to synthesize these seemingly separate aspects of human experience into an extraordinarily powerful potential for healing.

She was hooked: she knew immediately that she wanted to pursue certification in the process.

Susan received her certification through Eupsychia in 1994 and has been committed to this process since.

The Breathwork Experience

Breathwork uses a combination of evocative music that runs the gamut from tribal (drumming, rattles, didgeridoo pieces) to ethereal (Susan calls this “airy fairy”) and an alternate state of consciousness achieved through deeper, faster breathing. Its ability to provide re-framing (seeing things in a different light), insight, energetic release and heart opening was beyond her wildest imagining!

Artwork is incorporated in the process, used as a bridge between the deep state people go to while journeying and the return to ordinary daily consciousness.

Verbal processing is done as a group at the end. This processing is not a time to analyze others’ journeys, but rather time for the participants to do some integration of their experience into their daily lives. Others in the group witness the sharing, providing validation and holding the space with understanding of the courage that becomes palpable in the room

Inner Ventures Counseling and Silent Retreats

Michael Lipstein, past psychotherapist in Spokane, WA – currently co-owner of Couples and Business, LLC in Largo, FL on Integrative Breathwork:
“Eupsychia Breathwork is a powerful and efficient process to deepen one's understanding of themself as they go through their path of self-discovery.

In the 30 years of practicing psychotherapy, I have only seen a few methods that are as fast at jump-starting a stuck point in one's healing process as Eupsychia Breathwork. Breathwork cuts through the mustard when talk therapy may not.

One of the most important aspects of the psychotherapeutic process is to emotionally integrate what an individual intellectually understands.  Eupsychia Breathwork is an efficient method of achieving this significant step.

When done with a skilled facilitator, Eupsychia Breathwork can foster a deepening of emotional integration of significant life experiences more efficiently than many other therapeutic interventions.  Susan Moyer is a very skilled and sensitive clinician who offers this life enriching pathway to healing.”
